A Gift of Time

Alex had hinted that he was giving me something for Christmas that couldn’t be quantified in dollars. I didn’t realize how much so until I opened his gift this afternoon.

I confess, I burst into tears, and kept saying, “Really? Is this real?”

In a way, I receive gifts like this on an almost daily basis from Alex–this photo serves to epitomize a generosity that is commonplace in my life. Alex often comes home from work in the late evening to a messy house and a distracted-looking wife who is perched on the couch with a laptop, saying, I just had to write something. He understands that, some days, I just need to ignore everything and do this. He lets me have time for writing.

I can’t wait to plan my trip to Minneapolis. Thank you, Alex, for your generous gift of time.
